Asian Academy of Film & Television was established in 1993. This academy sponsored by Asian Society of Film & Television – a society registered under societies of registration act XXI of 1860 – is the first ever film school in the private sector in India. A number of courses relating to the art and craft of media production are being conducted by this academy. Proper, systematic and standardized high quality education provided by this academy has also made it the first ever ISO 9001:2000 certified media school in the world. This institution has been attracting students form almost all Indian states and union territories as well as overseas from the very beginning. Asian Academy of Film & TV has so far trained nationals of a record number of 70 Asian, African & European countries as well as the USA. Indian and foreign governments too have been deputing their staff to this institution for need based education and training from time to time. The Directorate General of Resettlement, Ministry of Defence, Government of India has approved six academic programmes of this institution for the armed forces personnel. Presently, 18 diploma level courses in the print media, film, radio television and the new media are being offered by this academy. This academy has also the distinction of having educated & trained a record number of over 6000 men and women in the past sixteen years who are now gainfully employed in various print media, film and TV production houses, satellite television channels, cable television networks, advertising agencies etc. The academy provides education and training for effectively communicating with the printed and spoken words and pictures – both still and moving – and is committed to excellence in media education and training. Asian Academy of Film & Television is headed by the media expert, media educator and a dynamic entrepreneur Sandeep Marwah. The school has distinguished governing and academic councils with representation from the print and electronic media, film industry and the academia. The governing council formulates polices and gives direction to the management.
 
  Many past students of this institution alumni like Kaushik Ghatak (Director of many episodes of popular TV serials Kyonki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Three, Sanjeevani, Sanskrit and Saathia); Aurag Tomar (Anchor person Zee TV ) Hena and Swati who played a lead role in the feature film Pyar Ki Dhun, have distinguished themselves in the Indian film and television industries.
